Having the mind of Christ and his humility

Introduction.
Having the mind of Christ means imitating Jesus Christ and having him as our example. Despite the shame of the
cross, Jesus died on it in order to reconcile man to God with his own blood. Paul would later say that he boasts in
nothing but the cross (Galatians 6:14).
A. Jesus Christ’s Example.
i. Jesus Christ is presented as the pattern of all believers. The believers’ joy can be obtained in his humility.
ii. The apostle Paul wishes that the church endeavour in humility.
B. Prerequisites in humility (2:1-4)
i. Unity in love (2:1-2a).
ii. Unity in spirit and purpose (2:2b-4).
C. Jesus Example of Humility (2:5-11) Paul espouses for the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ.
1. The Agony (2:5-8b)
a) He was God but did not cleave to his rights as God (2:5-6).
b) He made himself nothing by leaving his glory (2:7a)
c) He took upon himself the nature of a servant (2:7b)
d) He humbled himself (2:8)
e) He became obedient even to the death of the cross (2:8)

1. The Reward (2:9-11)
a) He has been exalted to the highest place (2:9a)
b) He has been given a name above all other names (2:9b)
2. All people everywhere will acknowledge him as Lord (2:b-11)
a) Every knee shall bow at the name of Jesus (2:10)
b) Every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (2:11)
Conclusion.
There are five things we must endeavor to do as servants of God for effective ministry. These are:
a) Be ready to lay aside all our glories for the sake of Christ.
b) Being obedient.
c) We must take upon ourselves the nature of servanthood.
d) Being humble.
e) Not cling to our rights, but count others’ rights of more importance than ours.
Prayer of Repentance
“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you
will be saved” Romans 10:9; If you are ready I encourage you to take a step of faith and give your life to Jesus, make
the following prayer.
“Lord Jesus, I need you. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive you as my
Savior and Lord. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life.
Make me the kind of person you want me to be” AMEN.
