BRIDLE PASSION; BUILD PURITY
1 Thessalonians 4:3-6,8.
So I used to think when you get saved, your body also gets saved ie someone will not have any sexual desires or feelings. That they will see a young man/woman and say this is my brother in the Lord. Hallelujah bro/siz. That one will not be attracted to anyone in a sexual way simply because they are saved.
I was so sure that Christians don’t face sexual battles. They are in the image and likeness of God and such things well, are just for those who don’t know Christ.
However, in my little journey, I have learnt that the reverse is true. Actually if there are people who have serious sexual battles it is the believers. It is not because they are weak, or lack self-control( woe to you who produced such harsh judgement when you see a brother or sister in the Lord fall). It is simply because they are also human. They are flesh blood and bones. I have actually come to learn that for ladies, when they are in their ovulation period they have serious sexual urges. It is biological, it is nature. It is very normal and healthy and okay.
That I can look at a man and be like, damn! This man is really fine! It is normal. That a saved man can look at a woman and be like, ‘huyu ni Mali safi’.
This shows that we are human and actually it is God who put these feelings in us. However there is a time and place for these feelings. It is in marriage as Paul in 1 Corinthians 7 puts it, that it is better for a man to marry than burn with passion.
So Paul is affirming that it is possible to have a passion for someone. It is possible and very normal to have the desire for sex. However it should be done in marriage.
So the question is , what do I do, when these feelings come and I am not married.
Well the above scripture puts it very clear for us. It says that we should avoid sexual immorality. How should we avoid it? It goes on to further say that we should learn to control our own bodies. This means that we will feel such things, not once or twice but many times.
BUT HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO HANDLE THIS?
☑️We LEARN to control our bodies.
Remember how you learnt to walk or talk or even write, it was quite a process right, but through consistency and training you were able to do so. Or when you went to school, there were teachers who trained and taught you, after that you were supposed to do your own personal studies to retain whatever it is you were taught and eventually there was a test that you had to go through.
So that’s what is supposed to happen even as we deal with this issue of sexual immorality. You train your body not to give in, you exercise, you work hard, you sacrifice, you avoid some things and some situations all this in a bid to train your body to say NO.
In the process of learning there will be many tests, your stand will be tested, but the more you have learnt the more you will pass the test.
☑️ Holy Spirit
And do you know what is more awesome, you have a teacher who is the Holy Spirit who will teach you. A student can never be above the teacher. So the more you submit to the class of the Holy spirit the more you are able to train your body to say no to any hint and form of sexual immorality. The holy spirit is so prompt and accurate such that when you are almost taking that path, he will tell you, but the question is will you listen?
God desires us to be holy and honorable. There should be a difference between how pagans and disciples of Christ handle their passions and desires. God called us to purity and holiness. To be a light unto the world. So the big question is, are we being a light even with our sexual lives? Think about it.
